Virtual Tour

Brick and mortar.  That’s what you see if you travel on Martling Road just off HWY. 431 in Albertville. Situated on over nine acres of land, Shepherd’s Cove is an impressive structure.  But with Hospice of Marshall County, it’s not about brick and mortar.  It has never been about brick and mortar. With humble beginnings as an all-volunteer organization in a small room at the Guntersville Recreation Center to our present 40,000 sq. ft. home, the mission of Hospice of Marshall County has always been to provide comfort and compassionate care to those living with a life limiting illness regardless of their ability to pay.

Shepherd’s Cove, our 10 bed hospice inpatient facility, is designed to complement the care offered through our home hospice program by providing a safe and comfortable environment for those times when the care of hospice patients cannot be managed in their own homes.

Compassionate, emotional and spiritual care that preserves comfort and dignity is provided in a spacious, welcoming, and homelike environment. Shepherd's Cove is designed as a short-term stay facility.  The goal is to stabilize the patient and the family both physically and emotionally in order for the patient to return to his or her home or long-term care facility, where Hospice of Marshall County will continue hospice care.  Located in Albertville, this facility is the only one in all of North Alabama.

Everyone entering our home is unique and it is important to us that you receive care with dignity and responsiveness.  Shepherd's Cove is a "home away from home" and we strive to do everything we can to support families during their stay with us.  Families and friends of patients staying at Shepherd's Cove are encouraged to visit and stay with their loved ones as much as they desire.

Each guest room has a private bath and is equipped with cable TV, DVD/VCR, tape/CD player and local and long distance phone service.  A family kitchen and dining area is available to all families for the preparation of small meals or snacks.  Coffee, water, ice and soft drinks are available for patients.  Families may bring in food items for patients and may place them in the family room kitchen.  Families are encouraged to make themselves at home in our family kitchen.

Family living areas and the Chapel are available for patients, family and friends.

Patient meals will be provided by Shepherd’s Cove.  Menus will be posted and meals are served at approximately the following times:
*Breakfast ~ 7:00 am to 9:00 am
*Lunch ~ 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
*Dinner ~ 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
A food tray may be purchased by family/caregivers with advanced notice.
Snacks/foods are available for patients at any time.

You are invited to stay overnight with your loved one.  All guest rooms have fully-reclining chairs and a pull out sofa-bed.  Shepherd’s Cove staff can provide you with linens. After 5:00 PM all entrances are locked.  Family and visitors should use the door located just past the covered entry way.  To gain access to the building, you may  press the gray button located to the right of the door and be admitted by the Shepherd’s Cove staff.

Children are welcome at Shepherd’s Cove; however, they should be closely supervised by an adult at all times.

Our four-legged friends may visit also.  Pets of the patient are welcome to visit, but should be up-to-date on their inoculations and should be restricted to the patient's room.  Permission for pet visitation may be obtained from the charge nurse.  Prior to bringing the pet to Shepherd’s Cove, the pet should be bathed.

Shepherd’s Cove is a smoke free facility.  If a patient wishes to smoke, a family member should accompany them to their covered patio outside their guest room.  If a family member is not present, cigarettes and lighter/matches are to be kept at the team station and are not to be kept at patient's bedside.

A children’s playroom is available for children visiting Shepherd’s Cove.  Age-appropriate books, games, videos and washable toys are provided for recreational activities. Children should be supervised by an adult at all times while in the playroom.  NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CHILDREN'S PLAYROOM.

A library stocked with an assortment of books is available for family use.

Individual and family support is available to assist the patient and family members with loss of independence, grief and stress issues, financial limitations and/or information and referral regarding community resources.  This support is available through the Shepherd’s Cove Social Worker.
