Hospice care is a choice made to enhance life for a terminally ill person.

What is Hospice?

Hospice of Marshall County is a program for persons with a life expectancy of six months or less and their families.  Our philosophy is the management of symptoms in the home or hospice inpatient facility, so hospitalizations can be avoided and promote the best quality of life possible for the patient and family.

Who Qualifies for Hospice Care?

Persons that:

bullet

Have a shortened life expectancy due to a life threatening illness;

bullet

Are residents of the service area of Hospice of Marshall County;

bullet

Agree the goal of care is to provide comfort measures instead of curative measures;

bullet

Their primary doctor agrees that Hospice care is appropriate.

How can someone begin Hospice care?

The patient, family member, or physician can make a referral to Hospice of Marshall County.  The Hospice staff will talk with the physician for his/her approval of services and to obtain directing the individual's care.  All referrals must be approved by the patient's physician.

How much does Hospice care cost?

Hospice of Marshall County is the only non-profit Hospice agency in the county and receives funds from United Way of Marshall County, donations and memorials.  Medicare, Medicaid, and some private insurances pay for Hospice care.  HMC admits patients without regard to their ability to pay for hospice services.
